Ella Rose and FiresSecret Studio&Location day, OXFORD - Sunday 15th August

I'll be doing my first ever studio/location event in a gorgeous location in Oxford on Sunday 15th August. I'm really looking forward to this, not least because the location is stunning - so eclectic and vibrant. It's going to be such a fun day, with some amazing images at the end of it!

There will be two models - myself and FireSecret, a delightful redhead with a beautiful pale figure, and you can book one-to-one sessions, available throughout the day in either Studio Blanco with FireSecret or in a beautiful Victorian pub location with me thirty seconds down the road, with a discounted price if you book one hour of each or if you book us for an hour together in the pub as a duo.

Please get in touch now to make a booking or with any questions. You can send me a message here or email the studio directly at sabel@studioblanco.co.uk. It will be a fantastic day and I hope to see you there!

Full details below...

The Victorian Pub, The Cape of Good Hope, is set in the heart of Oxford’s dreaming spires and features wooden floors, elaborate mirrors, chandeliers, various chairs, ornate furniture and leather sofas, both in contemporary and old fashioned styles with a fantastic array of colours and textures. It offers comfy surroundings and great food should you wish to grab a nice meal and a refreshing pint there too, all within walking distance of all the sites, shops, markets and number of world heritage buildings including the Radcliffe Camera, Sheldonian Theatre and other fantastic architectural backdrops so you could make the most of the day with sight-seeing too.

Studio Blanco, with black, grey, white and red backgrounds, hi-lite backdrop, chairs, reflectors, a wealth of props and natural daylight, is a great space for getting creative with artistic concepts - beautiful headshots, fashion, lingerie, abstract bodyscapes and artistic figure nudes.

The equipment available on the day is as follows:

At the Pub:
3 bowens espirit / system 500w/s complete with one soft box
One umbrella
One snoot
One 700mm Beauty Dish
Flash exposure meter

At the Studio:
3 bowens espirit / system 500w/s complete with one soft box
One umbrella
One snoot
Remote trigger
Flash exposure meter

Paper background - white, cream, red, charcoal, chromagreen and black (note: if damaged during the session, a charge of £9 per metre will apply)

The models are experienced, patient, creative and dedicated to achieving killer images. Having worked together before, their figures and looks complement each other beautifully. Both work in artistic nude styles and will also bring clothing and accessories, such as elegant ball and evening dresses, wedding dresses, floaty skirts and dresses, dance costumes, elegant lingerie, floaty fabrics, jewellery and accessories... All the ingredients will be in place for stunning quality images; this is truly a chance to shoot with no stress, one-to-one, for fun and great results!

This is a great opportunity to shoot in an interesting and unique setting AND have time to work on portraits, fashion, lingerie and creative ideas in the studio.

Lost in the Archives - part 2

This is the second in a new series of entries (the first one being here) in which I rediscover images from my hard drive, usually when re-shuffling my computer and trying to tidy things up for some reason or other. This time, the theme is 'Moody Portraits'.

North Wales with Jeremy Howitt

I had my second shoot with Jeremy recently. The first one, just over a year ago, was five minutes from my house in the glorious bluebells (see my first ever post!), so quite a contrast, distance-wise, from this one in Talacre, North Wales. Luckily for me, Jeremy did the driving, so I just got to relax in the car during the 3.5 hours from Oxford. :-)

After dumping our stuff at the hotel, which was practically on the beach, we went out to the lighthouse at Talacre to take some shots. The dress I am wearing in these shots is one I have had for years (probably about seven years or more) but forgot I owned and had never even taken the tags off; this is so typical of me, my wardrobe being a bit like Narnia. I think it may have been a bit big when I bought it or something, I don't know (if you're male this fashion-talk will definitely be boring you, so feel free to look at an aerial shot of Talacre instead).

Jeremy had certainly done his research in advance, working out the best time to shoot, taking into consideration low tide, sunset and sunrise, weather, aspect, etc. He had a clear idea of the type of images he wanted from the shoot, so I feel he absolutely deserves the beautiful images he's created.

Here are my faves from the 'red dress and lighthouse' scenario:

(A quick pre-sunset shot):

Then... Sun! And, with it, a chance to imagine I was Miranda from the Tempest, gazing out the the ocean and conjuring up all sorts of epic magic from the ocean... Hhhm, I don't think she actually did that, but I always feel a huge sense of drama from the sea, and do love this painting by Waterhouse.

Here's a nude version (we could only do a quick nude set due to the constant risk of families, dogs walkers and kids strolling along the beach):

Overnight, in my hotel room, I had the strangest dream. Or at least, I'm assuming I had a really strange dream, as, for some reason, I found myself in the middle of the night staring at the door, absolutely and entirely fascinated yet baffled as to where it led to. In my half-awake state, I just could not possibly imagine what was behind that door and knew I couldn't go back to sleep before I found out. I had some sense that I had to check I was safe. So I stood up and opened the door, at which point (standing in the doorway, peering out into the corridor), I instantly felt aware of my surroundings and what I was doing, and thus, ridiculous. What a weirdo I am. I have decided to blame my hayfever medication, rather than my over-active imagination. Having slept so badly, I dozed off briefly in Jeremy's car on the way home the next day after our morning shoot, which, he said, was fine by him just so long as I didn't wake up and try and open a door.

Anyway, before we left Talacre, we got up bright and early to meet the sunrise as it swam up above the water. The following shots are from what I have christened the 'squelchy' series, for obvious mud-orientated reasons. I am genuinely deeply proud of these images - I think they're simply stunning, and not really because of anything I've done (although the first one here in particular is an example of a rare occasion on which I wouldn't change anythng about my pose in hindsight), but because the backdrop of the sun, sand, sky and water is utterly beautiful in my opinion. I feel lucky to have been involved in this, and very grateful.

(Landscape version, as I can't choose:)

Finally, we spotted some driftwood and did these next few, before packing up and heading off back down to Oxford, which has not nearly enough beaches.

Rebecca Imogen Tun

...Is a very talented young lady. Seriously, go and check her out. She is utterly beautiful as well as creative - a model as well as photographer/artist - and is very much a one-woman show. I had the pleasure of working with her earlier this year, and have just been sent these, amongst others. MUA was Emma Knight.
A touch of red retro glamour:

Followed by some nudes (love the crops/framing of these; I'm loping out of the frame in the first and crouching to fit inside it in the second, like a giantess!):
